Kick-off meeting

On 16-20 December 2019, partners from Indonesia, Uzbekistan and The Philippines were invited to Vilnius, Lithuania to start the brand new Erasmus+ Capacity Building project “Community Seniors Involved International”.

They discussed the project’s activities, deadlines, dissemination, financial and reporting matters, internal and external communication. The international team also divided responsibilities amongst each other.

To build up the team for a strong partnership, a number of extra activities were organised – from entertaining city tours to ice skating (for most of the people, the first time!).

After these few days, everyone left even more motivated to make this project and cooperation meaningful!

Feelings of loneliness and isolation can lead to serious health consequences. Understanding the causes and risk factors for senior isolation can help us prevent it.

Nobody relishes the prospect of aging alone. A spouse, family member, or friend helps people laugh at the ridiculous parts of aging and provide support through difficult times.

Some things we can start doing today to ensure loneliness does not negatively impact our seniors are as follows:

  • Visit your loved one as often as you can. When having a conversation, really listen to what he or she has to say.
  • Take your elderly parent or grandparent out for lunch, dinner, a movie, out to visit friends or anywhere else you think he or she might enjoy going.
  • When you can’t visit, call and write often.
  • Let your elderly family member teach you something. Seniors love to pass on their knowledge, so give them an outlet to do so.
